Msquared Old School Shifter Fuel System Setup

While we highly recommend the SwedeTech GFS system for shifter karts, it may be that you don’t want to drop that kind of dough right now. No problem, we’ve got your solution. Back in the day, before there were fancy fuel setups for shifter karts we had to make do for ourselves. Over the years, we tweaked and adjusted until we came up with a simple fuel system that works perfectly. No, we didn’t invent it, but we definitely feel like we perfected it.

In addition to a motor and carburetor our setup requires 1) a rectangular Mikuni fuel pump DF44-227, 2) a t-fitting, 3) a CR125 exhaust hanger and of course plenty of fuel line.  All of which can be conveniently found here.  Instead of  trying to walk you through the whole setup, we’ve made a very nice diagram (below) that lays it out very clearly.  A few notes though.  First, the loop of fuel line between the fuel pump outlet and the t-fitting is very important as it provides an extra reservoir of fuel for the carburetor.  Second, the position of the t-fitting is also very important.  The fuel to the carburetor needs to flow straight through the t-fitting while the fuel returning to the tank needs to flow “uphill”.  This insures that the fuel doesn’t bypass the carburetor as it will take the path of least resistance.  Finally, we recommend a loop in the pulse line (not pictured in the diagram) to minimize oil in the fuel pump.  And that’s all there is to it!  We’ve been using this system since the ’90s and it works great.  If you have any questions give us a call at 801-972-4631 or drop us an email via our contact page.
